Embrace Tango MARATHON Weekend is a vibrant celebration of tango as a tool for connection, inclusion, and cultural expression. Hosted by Sofi & Lore and the US Tango Foundation Team, this event brings together dancers of all backgrounds to explore the richness of tango through classes, performances, and community-building gatherings to celebrate the diversity of tango, recognizing it as a dance that belongs to everyone.
German & Magdalena are internationally acclaimed tango dancers, choreographers, and educators celebrated for their exceptional connection, elegance, and innovative fusion of traditional and contemporary tango. Since winning the World Tango Championship in 2017, they have performed and taught in over 40 countries, captivating audiences with their artistry and deep passion for the dance.
Through their ongoing project, Find Your Tango, they contribute meaningfully to the global tango community—offering performances, workshops, and educational programs that honor tango’s roots while exploring its evolution. Their work bridges the past and future of tango, inspiring dancers of all levels to find authenticity, connection, and expression through the art of tango.
Celina Rotundo and Hugo Patyn are internationally acclaimed Argentine Tango dancers, choreographers, and teachers originally from Buenos Aires. With over 30 years of experience, they are known for their dynamic stage presence, precise technique, and powerful emotional connection. Hugo began his career in folk dance and performed with Forever Tango on Broadway, while Celina transitioned from a champion artistic skater to a tango dancer and fashion designer with her line By Celina Rotundo. Together, they created a unique teaching method and performance style that inspires dancers globally. Celina also founded the International Tango Femme Team, empowering women in tango.
Based in Dallas, they teach locally and internationally, offering classes, stage training, and online programs. Their work has been featured at major tango festivals around the world, and their choreographies have toured across the Americas, Europe, and Asia, earning them global recognition as leaders in contemporary tango.
About Sofi:
Sofi, originally from Uruguay, began dancing and singing at age 5 and is formally trained in ballet from age 8. She started studying Tango Dance at age 13 at her aunt’s academy, where Tango music was already familiar from her childhood. She studied tango with the renowned “Dinzel” Method in Argentina and Uruguay and studied with prominent figures like Mora Godoy and the Dinzels. Sofi performed with the Montevideo Dance Company and in international venues across Europe, the U.S., and South America, both as a solo artist and with various companies.
About Joe:
Joe is originally from Rio de Janeiro and began his dance journey at age 9 igniting a passion that led him to stages across America. He dances in festivals, congresses, events and loves to teach while sharing expertise with other professionals in the dance field. He has a wealth of talent and professionalism over 25 diverse dance styles and two decades of teaching experience.
Born in Rosario, Argentina, Mariano’s love of music and movement as self-expression began with studies in music theory and contemporary and Latin dance. As a teenager, he was introduced to tango through Argentina’s milongas, which gave him a deep sense of the traditions of tango as expression of culture. Mariano has over fifteen years of professional experience teaching, performing, Djing and organizing tango events in South Florida including "Miami Sunshine Tango Festival" He currently organizes, teaches and deejays at Miami Tango Club.
He has been invited to DJ in renown milongas in Argentina, including Buenos Aires and Rosario, and throughout the most famous United States Hawaii.
Born in Mar del Plata, Argentina, Lorena Diez has been a key figure in Miami’s tango scene since 2008—as a DJ, teacher, performer, and organizer. She co-runs Las Pebetas Milonga, Open Air Tango on Lincoln, and Tangology, and has DJed at milongas and festivals across the U.S., Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. Her sets reflect a rich understanding of contemporary orchestras and an intuitive connection to the dance floor, shaped by her ongoing ties to Buenos Aires. A strong advocate for equity and inclusion, Lorena promotes gender balance in tango programming and embraces role fluidity in the dance.
In addition to her work as a DJ, Lorena is a tango costume designer under her independent brand, Sur-Real Designs, and the co-founder of US Tango Foundation.
Jovanka JoAnn Milivojevic is from the Chicagoland area where she took her early steps in tango in 2010 and quickly fell in love with the music (Troilo first captured her heart). She initially honed her skills at small gatherings and has since DJed many house parties, practicas, and milongas in Tampa Bay and Chicago. Based in St. Petersburg, Florida, Jovanka’s experience includes co-hosting the Thanksgiving Tango Weekend and monthly milongas in St Pete. She DJed internationally at Viva Mexico Tango Festival in beautiful Ajijic, for which she will play again in 2026. She focuses on traditional Golden Age music to keep dancers inspired and happy, occasionally painting outside the lines by dipping into the 1930s and up into the 1950s+… always setting her sites on music that is heartfelt and playful.
Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, TDJ Alex Sz began his DJ journey in South Florida, where he founded La Tradicional Milonga in Miami and Tres Esquinas Milonga in Hollywood. He has collaborated with numerous milongas across South Florida, New York, Connecticut, and Italy, and has been part of the DJ teams for both editions of the Miami Marathon Milonguera and Tango Showcase. A passionate tango dancer, Alex curates each tanda with intention and sensitivity, always aiming to elevate the experience on the dance floor. He is also a proud collaborator of the US Tango Foundation, supporting inclusive, community-centered tango initiatives, and remains a devoted tanguero on a continuous journey of learning and growth.
